The use of petroleum resin as a tackifying agent in pressure-sensitive tapes is gradually increasing. Pressure-sensitive tapes find widespread applications in areas such as electrical insulation tapes, various packaging and sealing tapes, adhesive tapes for printing labels, and medical surgical wound dressings. The adhesive in pressure-sensitive tapes is primarily composed of elastic polymers, tackifying resins, plasticizers, viscosity modifiers, fillers, antioxidants, and stabilizers. Among these components, the major constituents are elastic polymers and tackifying resins, typically in a ratio of about 1:1. In the past, tackifying resins were mainly comprised of higher-priced terpene resins and rosin resins. However, currently, petroleum resins have extensively replaced them, leading to an increasing proportion of petroleum resin usage in pressure-sensitive tapes each year. In recent years, there has been a gradual growth in the demand for medicinal tapes, such as using adhesive tapes containing medications as a substitute for nitroglycerin in treating angina.
